A Lifetime....

....Or 30 years, anyway.

I can't quite believe I'm typing this, but 30 years ago, this very date, I walked into a pub and pulled the bloke I'd had a crush on for ages. It was a Friday night, a regular band night, for the Greyhound pub. I tried to get his attention, walking past him, then gave up and went straight up to him.

Let's just say, the rest is history!

History which has now turned into 30 years of memories. The sad thing? We met long before mobile phones, as we know them, became a thing. Selfies didn't exist, so there are very few pictures of me and the mister. I did find one, from 2 years after we met, it was not long after my 18th, we were already engaged and would get married a year later. The only reason I know when this is from is because, my niece was part of the picture I cropped this from, she was a little baby and was born 3 days after my 18th.

The quality isn't great, I snapped this on my phone, off an old photograph. I think he was gorgeous though, old images like this still give me goosebumps!

Every one thought we were mad, when we got together. No one particularly agreed with the age gap, thank God there was no social media back then.

Over 30 years there's been a lot of good times, bad times, laughter, happiness, sadness and so much more. We've been through stuff that would break most couples, almost broke us a couple of times. Yet here we are, still together, still laughing. Thankfully there are no arguments, these days. I think after this many years you learn what's worth arguing about! We never argue about money, we don't have any, so what's the point.

We've managed to produce 3 gorgeous boys, something we didn't think was going to be possible, we had so many fertility issues early on. We've always been a team, where they are concerned. There's been mental health issues, special needs, and the 'system', all of which we have supported each other through.

Through it all, we stay a team and stay smiling.

I woke up this morning, feeling a little overwhelmed. Expectation vs reality kind of hit me. I didn't expect my life like this, I don't know what I expected, just not being quite so poor, with children that had additional needs. Sometimes, at special anniversaries, it hits me just how much crap we've been through.

All of these feelings disappeared though, when the hubby gave me a cuddle and treated me to my favourite breakfast:

He makes me realise that, whatever life may throw at us, we can get through it, together.

So, happy 30 years, Mr. Ojo.
Here's to 30 more, my partner in crime.

My husband and I have been together 26 years and it struck a chord when you said you don't argue any more. We're the same. We used to argue a bit, but not at all now. x
