Getting Sh*t Done!

If you're a regular reader of this blog, you will know 2 things:

1. My youngest, autistic, son hates leaving the house (except for a ride in the car, but he won't get out).

2. I have no money! We were once a family with 2 working parents, life threw a ton of crap at us, now I'm a full time carer and my hubby is no longer physically able to work.

This is life. I'm not complaining because I'm fortunate enough to love the bones of my hubby, getting to spend time with him is the best. My boys are a joy to be around, making me smile, or laugh out loud, every single day.

The problem is that: We want a nice house, because we're always in it, or at least a nice garden to relax in. Not too much to ask, is it?
Actually it is.

So we do everything on a budget, and hope for the best!
Sometimes, it can actually work. Through frugal shopping, and the goodness of people, you can get sh*t done.

The first thing we wanted to do, was our bedroom. We all deserve a space to call our own, my house is all about the children, so our bedroom is ours. We gave our bedroom up, when the eldest moved out. The younger 2 now share the bigger room, we have a smaller room, the box room is like a walk in wardrobe.

Our new bedroom used to look like this:
Messy and horrible!

bad lighting, but you get the idea!
Now, with a little bit of frugal shopping, checking the sales and, a good scout around Ikea, It looks like this:

It really hasn't cost a lot! The wallpaper was purchased from Home Bargains, discounted in price, cost around £50 in total. Even the wallpaper paste was bought there, £1 per packet, we used 2. The shelves and picture frame were bought in Ikea, a total of around £20. The picture frame was £3?! I now need to print off some current pictures, to fill it up.

Nothing else has been changed, just cleaned and tidied! It finally feels like our very own, tranquil, space. So much so, I don't want to leave!

The other space we've worked on, is our garden. My boys are getting older, they don't want to play in the garden any more. So we wanted to turn it into a more relaxing, adult, space. Again, this is something that really doesn't come cheap, have you seen the price of garden furniture!?

We had to remove our fence, out the front, so we could use our drive again (hubby and youngest needed it), so we still had wood left from that. I gave the garden a good clear out, several tip trips in the car, and moved some things around. That's when the hubby came up with the idea of tidying it up with little fences, hiding the eyesores, and adding some plants.

It used to look like this:

Excuse the washing!

Yes, that is an old fridge, on the left!
It now looks like this:

unfinished, but beautiful.

We didn't have enough wood to do this, but thanks to good people, after a shout out on facebook, it can be finished! The grass is a bit yellow, at the moment, because of the crazy hot weather we are having, but to me it's still gorgeous!

It's not shameful, to ask people for help. Most of the wood we were given was stuck in friends gardens, they couldn't wait to get rid!

So, thank you to those people. It goes to show, making things look nice, on a budget, isn't impossible.

I can't wait to sit in the garden (in the shade, obviously, because I burn like a b*tch!). I hope I've inspired people, that didn't think it was possible to do things, with little cash.

Much love
