Growing Up (A poem)

He's growing up
no longer a child
His maturity is showing
his personality mild

The world is a different place now
There's adventures to be had
There's a life beyond my four walls
A new beginning for the lad

But he doesn't see it before him
There's a sadness in his eyes

There's anxiety for the future
A fear of what life may hold
His past has left him scarred
people leaving him out in the cold

I want to fix him
I really do
I wish it was me
That he could turn to

I want to tell him that love, laughter and joy
will be a part of his life, this beautiful boy

One day someone will come
that will re-light those eyes
